The Beginning

Today is the start of an amazing journey. Okay so we started this journey back in April. It has not gone so well this year. Here it is September and we finally got a baby Roma Tomato looking like it might show some progress. We lost the majority of our garden. Which in turn makes one feel like a failure. But I have to remember this is our first year. You will have your failures. It's what you learn from these failures that matters. I am currently still doing research to find out what I might be able to change for next year, or when and what we decide to plant next. This first year we planted Strawberries, Roma tomatoes, 2 other types of tomatoes, Cucumbers, Broccoli, Carrots, Peas, Green beans, and 3 types of potatoes. Our carrots look all kinds of shrunken and tiny. We have a few Roma's doing something now. Managed to get a handful of Green Beans to freeze, and some potatoes. With our potatoes the plants died before the potatoes could get very big. I took what we had and got 7 cans out of them. While in the process of canning them 2 cans busted. All the others we thought we had successful cans. Well about a week to 2 weeks later. The lids all started popping and we lost all 5 that were left. Again heartbroken and upset. But we think that it was because the lids were older so the wax seal part didn't take like it should of. So this is just an overview of this years crops and failures. Look forward to the next post. I hope to share about each one of these crops what we did, what we might of done wrong, and what we may try for the next round! I hope you can come and enjoy this crazy ride with us. Would love to have you along!
